Gb Dell XPS 16", is this a good setup?

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz)
16" (inch) Truelife 1080p Full HD RGBLED Edge to Edge Display
    4096MB 1067MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]
    512MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 3670 graphics card
250GB (7,200rpm) Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive

I customised this and after applying a 10% discount code it comes to just over £1000.

How well will this laptop cope with new and upcoming games?

Are there any good alternatives for around £1000?

    Thx

    Welcome to the NBR forums.

there are much better alternatives for £1000

for UK....probably some of the best deals are here:
    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/clearance/I0

the X70 with the Nvidia 9800M GT for under £700 is the hottest:
    - Clevo M860TU (aka. Sager 8660, Kobalt Nexus, etc) .... can upgrade to Nvidia GTX 260M

Just in case if you ask.

    The ATI 3650 is a mid-range (128-bit) card.

    the Nvidia 9800M is a high-end (256-bit) card.

a high-end card will easily outperform a mid-range card by over two times.

so if you want to game, look towards a high-end videocard for better performance and lasts longer for future gaming.

    Thanks :-)

Those specs are certainly are a lot better + cheaper than the alternatives I've seen. This is the best one I saw - http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?NNB-655VP

What is the build quality of Novatech like and how do they compare to the likes of Dell/HP?

I heard bad things about them a few years ago, what is the general view on them now?

the best one on that list is actually:
    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?NNB-00008

that has the fastest videocard you can find for that price.

Novatech does not design or manufacture notebooks, they just configure them with a CPU/RAM/HDD and sells it.

the notebook I listed is quite famous... being the fastest 15.4" gaming notebook on the market.

you can look it up easily in different re-branded names:
    - Clevo M860TU (is the true ODM model name)
    - Sager NP8660
    - Kobalt Nexus
    - Novatech X70
    - Rock Xtreme 620
    .... etc ....

That one only has 2gb though, and I was aiming to get sometihng with 4GB in it.

Regardless of who makes the laptops, do you know what the build quality is like?

    Thx

memory is cheap. you can upgrade it yourself

    4GB (2 x 2GB) of DDR3 is around $55-60 here in the US.

as for build quality, the Clevo notebooks' build quality ranks up there with the best... like Lenovo Thinkpads.

Why are they so much cheaper than other brand's laptops then?

That was a clearance... they are now selling the same laptop with Nvidia 260m GTX, instead on 9800m GT.

I think it sold out as of now.

they are not cheaper... they are more competitively priced since so many vendors sell the same systems... with different branding.

please read the Clevo Guide if you havent yet
