Re: Why is Mac the main choice for College students.
I "had fun" with my female friends instead.
I can see why they do that too. I just disagree about choosing a platform based on a freebie music player.Anyway, whoever said something about the discounts had a good point too. My friend took full advantage of the free iPod, and I can see a lot of people who would too.
I don't do harddrive portable audio players. Apple taught me the hard way to not have anything moving (yes, I was that bloke you referred to, methinks).Personally, I love iPods, whoever said they were overrated can suggest a new harddrive mp3 player, as I need a new one badly (my Video got waterlogged months ago... or maybe a year, I can't even remember).
I use SDHC-cards. My suggestion is to buy a Cowon D2 and shop for a couple of 32GB SDHC-cards. I guess you could go for its bigger brother if you want to have a bigger screen.

Re: Why is Mac the main choice for College students.
By that definition, anything over a netbook/budget notebook is unneccessary. Or anything over a pad and pen.
Because I'm not trying to score debate points here. Why do you repeat the very same question you opened your post with?
I'm not saying you shouldn't voice your opinion, but perhaps we should take this to PM rather than cluttering up a thread with point/retort?Of course it's their call (or not, since we speak of the lemming effect), but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about it, nor that I shoudln't be allowed to voice that opinion.

Re: Why is Mac the main choice for College students.
Let me just make it clear again that I wasn't the person defining those needs. And no, a pen and paper wouldn't work in this day and age for writing essays. At least not in the colleges and universities I know of.
Although the newer MacBooks have a faster processor than netbooks, they're still as useless as netbooks. Actually less, since you can get netbooks with a (working) expresscard slot.
LOL, so you repeat the exact same question because you're "not trying to score debate points here"? How does that even make sense?Because I'm not trying to score debate points here.
Why? I think we're on topic.I'm not saying you shouldn't voice your opinion, but perhaps we should take this to PM rather than cluttering up a thread with point/retort?
I stayed on the platform until I was forced off it, I have to admit. I like OS X, but even that has become crippled, so I'd have to boot into windows to get work done if I bought their (new) hardware. But in this day and age, I am tired of the multiplying workarounds to get the job done no matter where I am, and I fear it will become even worse. But Tiger, I loved Tiger as an os – it made sense to me - but even then I was tired of the hardware.
What I'm trying to say, there can be many reasons for liking OS X (and vice versa), but to me, final cut would be one to hate it, given the hardware limitations (Agere chip in the FW-equipped ones and non-working EC-slot).
One good thing, though: at least Apple has the DVD install disks in the box, even with the MBA. That's worth something. Especially considering what I chose to make the switch to the windows-side of things

Re: Why is Mac the main choice for College students.
Well, I'm not a fan of Macs myself (but if you want em, each to his own), but it's not right to say that style doesn't matter when it comes to a laptop. Laptops, like cars, houses, and clothing are a very personal thing. It'd be extremely wrong to say the looks of cars doesn't matter. The same goes for laptops. HP took #1 for laptops when they switched to their newer look with Imprint an everything.
Going to college next year, my personal choice is an EliteBook. It's a decent price, with good quality and support, with good hardware. And the style for me is perfect. It's unique, but subdued. No crazy gaming colors or lights.Questionably Portable: HP EliteBook 8730w|17" WUXGA RGB DreamColor|C2D P8600 2.4GHz|1GB nVidia FX3700M|4GB DDR2-800|250GB 7200RPM Guinea Pig Portable: Google Cr-48 Legacy: HP Compaq nx9420

Re: Why is Mac the main choice for College students.
I don't think anyone here is arguing that looks doesn't matter at all or shouldn't matter at all. Of course it matters. But when looks become the sole parameter, and function loses out (form over function), then a tool has lost its purpose and has become nothing more than something to pose with in front of others with the same inclination.
Haha, thank you

Re: Why is Mac the main choice for College students.
A lot of ignorance in this thread...
just a lot of stereotyping Macs... most all of which is totally untrue.
its easy to repeat over and over what other people say bad about Macs without ever knowing anything... I'm sure most of the people saying bad things really believe what they say, but believing what your saying doesn't make it correct.
