The first one since most games dont have quad support at this point... but you can get a laptop for 3k with a quad and all the specs of the first...
Just search through the higher end laptops at www.xoticpc.com or www.gentechpc.com
    ALIENWARE M17x R3 in production
    Alienware M17x R3
    Intel Core i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    16gb 1333mhz ram
Nvidia GTX 460m (485 possibly soon?)
    120hz 1900x1080p WLED screen!
    1.5 TB 0-raid HDD setup

I'd go with the fourth one since 6GB of ram isnt a huge improvement over 4 GB of ram and the .13 Ghz difference in proc speed do not justify the $400 price difference over the first choice.

The "best" config? Probably the second (even if the game lacks quad-core support, 2 of the quad-core's cores running at 2.5GHz will be plenty - won't bottleneck you). But with money in concern, the last one is the best option out of the four you listed.

The second one because its a quad core. Also this game was very fun.

    Probably the second one...

    But you said...
    .HD 38709800M GS 512MB PCI-Express DDR3
Is it an ATI HD 3870, or a GeForce 9800M GS?
It has to be one of them, there cant be one of each.

Ok, i still stick with the second one.

Also, you asked not regarding price, so that is #2. IMO, regarding price:Performance, then I think the 4th one is best.

I will take the fourth. The DDR3 speed increase for the ram would help a lot and as said before, quad core is useless

DDR3 does not have significant performance gains over most of the relatively fast DDR2 RAM, so it's not that big of an issue. Theoretically, it should also be more power efficient, but again, the difference is minimal.

Quad core is far from useless. A 2.5GHz quad core will offer much much better performance than even a 2.93GHz dual core, provided that the application supports multi-core systems. Many video-encoding applications do support quad core, so they would run noticeably faster on the quad core. Plus, multitasking is improved on a quad-core machine. Most games, however, can not yet take advantage of quad cores, although you'll be seeing that change with newer games.

I think most of us pretty much came to a consensus that the 2nd system would be the best performer, while the 4th system will be the best performer, factoring in cost.
