Hyper Threading
I just got a R3000T compaq and it has a P4 3.0GHz w/HT. Someone on another post had said something to me about it only works if you have both ram slots filled, I currently have one ram stick of 512MB I was wondering dose it matter the size of the second stick? An is it a significant performance gain when Hyper Threading is enabled?

Hyperthreading is enabled or disabled in the BIOS. The thing that is enabled with two RAM sticks is Dual-channel. This doubles the throughput of the RAM, but has nothing to do with the funcionality of the processor. Hyperthreading should be enabled by default, and it does make a performance difference when multiple windows are open.

how much difference will dual channel ram make? Also how much diference will 512ram compared to 1024 be? I'm just trying to determine if I should get more ram sooner or later.

Dual Channel only hypothetically offers a performance increase. In reality, it's not really noticeable.
You will definitely be able to notice the difference between 1 gig and 512 MB of RAM, especially for intensive applications like Adobe Photoshop and gaming.

ok, thanks I think the 2 things I do that are the most taxing is ripping DVD's/burning and playing games, so if that helps then its worth it to me.
