    Default Looking for Laptop Recommendations

    Hi all!

I've been a lurker for a while and have to say that you people really know your stuff. So I was hoping you could give me some advice on what to get for my next laptop. After lots of research, I keep finding ones that would be perfect except for one or two little things. So I'd like to take another approach. This is what I'll be using the computer for. Let me know what you'd recommend.

I travel a lot and use it for 3-4 hours at a stretch, so:
    - Lap use only
    - Don't want it to overheat my lap/palmrest or shut down due to overheating
    - Solid construction
    - Not too heavy
    - Good tech support
    - battery life NOT important (always plugged in)

I'm not using it for gaming, just programming and to listen to music in my room, so I'll need:
    - 15.4" screen
    - nice sound/good built-in speakers
    - 60 GB HDD
    - dvdrw (for backup)

I've had a Dell for the past 3 years, which I loved for its specs, but prefer something more solid and with better tech support this time around.

    Any suggestions?

If you don't mind a 14 inch screen, the Fujitsu S7000 is right up your alley. Its got an Super Multi DVD Burner and weighs just 4.5 pounds. 4.5 hours battery life too.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mehtache. I wish I could get something with a smaller screen, but I like to have lots of windows open (code and browser windows - I'm a web programmer) and figured the 15.4" screen would let me tile them. That and I could watch an occasional widescreen DVD. []

I think that's why I'm having trouble finding a good fit. I need something relatively portable, yet has a larger (15.4") screen and good sound. College student special. [8D]

This may sound dumb, but I'm a laptop novice. What is the 6%APP?

    Thanks

I think APP stands for Academic Purchase Program. It's a discount students get.
