    Ca Most trouble free computer

Getting a new laptop in the next month or so and giving my Dell to a family member. Just wondering what notebook is the most reliable. There are some good prices out there on Acer and HP but not sure of the these units are reliable compared to my 3 year old dell.

well, in my opinion, a "simple" dell (inspiron or the new studio line) still takes the crown for reliability. plus, if something does go wrong, dell has a very good customer/tech service. i'm not a big fan of the acers because i've toyed around with a few in a various local shops, and they all feel/look enormously plasticky to me.

    just my 2c worth.

The Business class *.Dell would do the job. One advantage with .Dell is that you can have on-site technicians and if not, I think they pay the shipping fees for repairs.

I really think "trouble free" is highly dependent on the user, esp software wise.

For example I know that no laptop would be "trouble free" in the hands of my family members who still use AOL!!

Hardware wise, Lenovo's are pretty solid, not to pretty, definitely function over form.

What do you plan on doing with it?

Most of all it should be noted that one person's experience with a one particular company can differ greatly than another's.

I just use it for the internet, email, photo's etc. The dell inspiron 6400 I have now has been great. Had a battery replaced under warranty and that is it. Just wondering if if maybe Toshiba or Sony might be a little better build. Thanks all for your help.
