Default can't make up my mind

I'm trying to decide on a notebook and only one thing is standing in my way. I want a notebook that is good for gaming but doesn't have to be the greatest at all, just play most all the new games out there on medium to high settings. I was wondering if the 9600m-gt will be able to do this or if i should spend more cash on the 9700m-gt but has a slower processor.

these are the 2 machines i have it narrowed down too

    asus g50v-x1
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220379
    which has
    4gb of mem
    9700m-gt
    t8400 processor

    vs

    http://powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=611
    i will put in a t9400 processor
    9600m-gt - ddr3
    4gb memory

    vs

    http://powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=579
    t9400 processor
    9600 gt ddr2
    4gb memory

i guess what i'm asking is faster cpu and slower gpu or faster gpu and slower cpu?

I'm not familiar with PowerNotebooks.com, so I can't offer an opinion about them....

But I am a fan of ASUS and support the advice of my fellow posters! They have great customer service, fantastic tech support and the most impressive standard warranty in the consumer/retail notebook business!

Anytime a company offers a warranty superior to their competitors and still sells their products at competitive prices- it's a VERY good sign!

For $1399, that Asus is a good deal, it is 128bit, so it's not a high end card. But it will max everything out at at least @1280*1024. (when i say everything, i mean every game but crysis )

I'd recommend the Toshiba F55 with the 9700M GTS because that card is 256bit, which will utilize twice the VRAM (high textures), and allow you to run your games at higher resolutions.

No, Don't spend > $1500 on any laptop without a 256bit GPU. Period. Gateway P-fx, m860tu, toshiba f55, etc.. etc.. have 256bit (high-end) video cards.

ok it looks like my loan is gonna go through which leaves me 2500 to throw around on a machine. I did some looking into the gateway p-7811fx, i like a lot of the specs it has. i'm worried about it being 10lbs though. that and the memory is only 800, vs the 1066mhz on the sager NP8660 both are 9800 gt and should pack a lot of punch.

    I'm still considering buying this
    http://powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=611
    i will put in a t9400 processor
    9600m-gt - ddr3
    4gb memory
and saving a ton of cash instead for different things.

so what do you guys think?

gateway fx, customized sager NP8660 or save money and get the 9600gt ddr3 notebook? mild gaming nothing hardcore like crisis

Forget about the P-fx because it is too large for you.

I mean, I think that Asus is a good deal at $1399 and not a penny higher.

But even if you don't intend on playing crysis now, a 256bit gpu is a great investment (3 years down the road) the M860TU offers that.

But I think you will be quite satisfied with that 9700M GT in the Asus as well as the price.
