Default XPS M1730 vs HP HDX Please Help!

    HI,

I am returning XPS M1730 with SLI 8700's.

1.I can afford the new XPS M1730 with SLI 8800ms, t8300, vista, 2 gb ram, 7200 rpm hd with discounts

    2. I can also afford HDX with 8800mGTS, 2 gb, and extreme x7900 processor

Would the SLI 8800mGTX with t8300 be much better than 8800mGTS WITH the x7900 (supposed to be a superb processor).

I am looking for a computer that will sit on my desk for a few years and last me. I am a gamer, but the extreme processor vs t8300 vs SLI 8800m vs 8800mGTS confuses me... what should i do for a long lasting computer for gaming at high resolutions

I'd take the Dell. If you really need to, down the track, upgrade the processor in it.

SLI 8800M GTXs with a T8300 is going to give you far better gaming performance than a single 8800M GTS with an X7900, especially if you're playing at 1920x1200 as I'm sure you will be. The X7900 has more power than is necessary to run modern games; that extra bit over even a 7500 or so isn't going to give you much of an edge, FPS-wise. I'd spend the money on the 1730.

Go for XPS,it is surely better option, and besides modern games don`t use full potential of extreme proc. so it is not worth it.

What about AW m17x?it is better then dell(in my opinion)!

I'm waiting on the m17x The Dell's nice, but Alienwares are just so pretty.

Well, I -would- consider the 1730, but the lack of an option for a single 8800M GTX or 8800M GTS instead of 2 GTXs in tandem cuts it out of the equation for me.

There's a trade in program for the XPS 1730 with 8700M SLI cards. You can send it in and they'll put in 8800M GTX SLI cards for you for an extra fee... But it's better then getting a new computer.

hp is slowly moving more towards gaming i think so might want to wait a bit to see what the do, and others as well. wouldn't want you to waste money, especially your large amount.
