Sub $1000 Decent Gaming System

If you can stretch to $1200 the Gateway P-6831-FX will go on sale on Sunday at Best Buy. It has the 8800m gts and makes it great value for a gaming machine. The CPU is so so but easliy replaceable.

The only real knock would be the low perceived quality of Gateway. But the review so far have be good from people that have it.

That one looks great, but what is "NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8800GTS with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete video memory"?? Discrete video memory??

Does this seem like a good deal for $950? I'm leaning towards this machine...
Is this video card enough to make the 17" look good, even though it's more for the 15"?

Although, I'm gonna visit Best Buy on Sunday and check out the Gateway deal before I purchase anything...

Discreet video memory just means that its has a graphics card rather than drawing vram from your system ram.

As mentioned, it means you have separate dedicated graphics chip. If you want to game this is a characteristic you want your graphics chip to have as opposed to integrated GPU.
