    Gb Customize my Vaio

I have been doing some research and I decided on customizing my own Sony Vaio VGN-FZ290 and these are the specs I'm thinking about getting, I would really appreciate some expert advice on whether this will be good enough to do work, play games, watch movies on. I need this to last quite a while.

    Component: Keyboard (Black)
    Component: WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n w/Integrated Bluetooth®
Component: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
    Component: NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT
    Component: LCD 15.4" WXGA (XBRITE-HiColor™)
    Component: SuperMulti DVD±R DL / DVD±RW / DVD-RAM Drive
Component: 200GB SATA Hard Disk Drive (7200 rpm)
    Component: 2 GB DDR-SDRAM (DDR2-667, 1 GBx2)
Component: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz)
Component: Norton Internet Security 2007 (2 Year Subscription)
    Component: Quicken Deluxe
    Component: Video Standard
    Component: Photo Standard
    Component: Microsoft Office 2007 Home/Student

I also got the 3 year express mail protection plan, etc.

The total was like $2100 and I could spend a little more if there is something missing or something I should upgrade. Thanks so much

Are you sure this is your last decision? Sony laptops are overpriced for what is in them and there is alot better things to buy with the same budget.

I heard they were slightly overprice, but that the quality and reliability were there in its place, which is what I need especially because I'm going to be traveling abroad a lot. I also got $300 dollars off so that helped a little

I didn't know Sony notebooks were so ill-reputed. Should I even consider the FZ-290?

For that price you might want to consider the Toshiba X205. much more bang for your buck and just as reliable. (we've had 2 toshibas, one of them is still used in the family and is 5 years old almost. it marches on with no problems whatsoever)

You dont have to buy Sony to buy reliable.

Asus also makes wonderfully reliable notebooks. Lenovo(IBM) Thinkpads have astounding reliability. that Fujitsu Siemens in my sig. which is a POS on paper, has been through 5 years of rough usage without failing a tick for 4 of them . Virtually every notebook manufacturer (with some exceptions) produces reliable notebooks these days, so theres really no reason to pay Sony's price premium if you want reliability.

but, if you want blu-ray... get the fz. the t61p is nice, but the vaio looks better. and unless you're clumsy, you'll be fine and either should last a while.
