    Gb Sony vs Asus

    Hi guys.......again.
Right, these are my FINAL two choices of laptop.

    Asus F3SV (AP)
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 - 2GHz, 800MHz FSB
    2GB DDR2-667MHz
    160GB Serial ATA 5400rpm
    15.4" Widescreen TFT (1280x800 - 16:10)
    DVD±RW Super Multi
    NVidia GeForce 8600M GS 256MB
    802.11a/b/g/n
    Bluetooth Enabled
    2.9kg
    2 Year Collect and Return
    Windows Vista Ultimate

    Sony Vaio FZ11s
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 / 1.8 GHz ( Dual-Core )
    2 MB - L2 Cache
    2 GB (installed) / 2 GB (max) - DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz - PC2-5300 ( 2 x 1 GB )
    160 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
    DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM - integrated
    15.4" TFT active matrix 1280 x 800 ( WXGA )
    NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT - 128 MB
    Wireless NIC - Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
    0.3 Megapixel
    Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Which one? I can get the Sony for £50 less and was initially going to go with that. However the Asus seems so much better on paper. How is Asus with warrenty claims and will build quality match the Sony.

    Thanks, jam.

Asus all the way, their warranty is brilliant and the price for the specification in their laptops is hard to beat even by standards set by Dell. With Sony you're paying for the name, their specification choice is extremely poor and I haven't had a laptop from them but with items like mp3 player and speakers etc the cost to repair them is as much as buying a brand new iteam.

Plus I've got that Asus laptop and I really haven't been dissapointed. I'm constantly seeing if I could have got a better deal if I'd waited till now (got mine about 2 months ago) and I haven't seen anything better for the price, well maybe except Dell but they still cost a bit more.

    Thanks for the reply.
Yeh, if I get the Asus notebook then I'll defintly get it from laptopsdirect. Btw, how did you find the battery life on the F3sv? Thats the only thing holding me back from buying it as I've read some posts which say it can only last around 1.5 hours.

The ASUS is the much better notebook. Although ASUS' main issue with its notebooks is battery wear, but it should last longer than an hour and a half.

Yeah the battery life is about 1.5hours, it hasn't bothered me much though as I tend to have my adapter in most of the time. With the F3SV you have

Power4Gear. Power4Gear is like an energy usage thing. You can select 3 different power plans:
Power4Gear Performance - Which I always have on for games etc, this is why you'd only have 1.5hours battery life.
Power4Gear Battery Saving - The Brightness of the screen drops and you get more battery life but i'm not sure of the life though.
    Power4Gear Entertainment - Which is a compromise I think.

Battery life is also manually configurable though so you can chose your own settings so battery life could be dragged out.

Laptops direct shipped my laptop out straight away and I got it after a days wait. It may have been because I phoned them and someone got onto it straight away, so it might be best to do that.

I have both brands of notebooks from these companies. Sony and ASUS. They both have good quality, sturdily built, but ASUS comes out better in money, and you get more for it. Sony products are good, but the reason they are expensive is cause of their name.

    Awesome!
I am looking for almost exactly the same specs as yours. I am not a big gamer but do a lot of video editing and stuff...I 'd love the DVI; wish F3SV had the HDMI out.

    Thanks bud.

    btw,
I just canceled my Dell Inspiron 1520 order. Thank heavens!
