Hp dv6500t
I am looking to buy this computer and i have a few questions:
1) Is an upgrade of the T7100 worth 75$ and how much better is the T300, also what is the difference between the 2 and 4 Mb....like where does it make the difference?
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7100 (1.8GHz/2MB L2Cache)
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
2) What is the vista i should get? Home Basic or Home Premium?...and what is the difference betweeen those two?
3) If i choose the T7100, home basic, 15.4 inch, 2GB, 383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS, 80GB hard drive, and one year waranty it will come to arround 1250...i have a rebate that gives me 200$ off....sooo arround 1050$.
Does anyone think i should not buy this computer, and maybe have some better suggestions for me? I want arround the same specs, i am a casual gamer, and would like to play new games, i figure the 8400M is pretty good and will have no problem playing new games, and will be using the comp for college. Budget of arround 1000$
Thanks

Re: Hp dv6500t
i think the dv6500t is pretty sexy, that said.
1. The upgrade is well worth the money. The GHz increase itself is minimal, but the increase in cache i think means that you can process more information, don't quote me on it though. i was just told, more cache the better.
2. i'm pretty sure home basic does not have the aero interface. which would be a pretty big difference, i mean it's like getting vista without the flashy lights.

Yes the extra cache will help you in CPU intensive apps like encoding/video and photo editing/number crunching/businessapps ect but a good amount or ram and a fast(5400rpm or 7200prm) helps too.
Heres an article(chart)about the differences between home and preimun

Re: Hp dv6500t
so i should at least get the premium....as for the t7300...i only have money for either that upgrade.from the t7100 or for a 2Gb upgrade from 1gb, as to my understanding 2gb are needed to run windows vista premium, which i now decided to get. So what do you guys think?...upgrade to the t7300 or upgrade to 2gb?....or....there is another choice...not get any waranty on it, which is 99 dollars, but i think that's kinda risky....also turns out that with the cupon i can only get 100$ off....so the comp would turn to arround 1188$...anybody have any better priced suggestions?

Re: Hp dv6500t
id go with the t7300 but honestly id go with the dv6500Tse or what ever it is the special edition one though i have one its nice it takes fingerprints alot less then the black i like the black just its easier to keep this one clean and its about the same the only reason the base cost is more is beacuse it comes with the webcam fingerprint reader and that stuff because they only want to have to make 1 set of plastics for ever modle because its special editon

How much is it on the HP website to upgrade the ram? It might be cheaper to get the ram from Newegg.com or Outpost.com.
Look at the HOT RAM Deals! threadLatitude D410. 6 years old notebook that did not have a built-in optical drive when built.

Re: Hp dv6500t
seee...that's what i was thinking, however...it comes with a waranty doesn't it?...so to upgrade the ram, you can't do it yourself, you have to either take it in to a profesional or what not or to send it in....so that would end up costing much much more....or is it different than desktops for laptops, and you can change the ram yourself without loosing the waranty?...btw 1 gb of ram is 125$

Re: Hp dv6500t
Upgrading the RAM yourself will not void your warranty unless you really screw it up. It's the easiest upgrade available. You haven't been looking at the best deal, 1 Gig of RAM can be had for $30 if not less.

Re: Hp dv6500t
Try using the APP (educational discount) since you are a college student. It might save you some money vs. your coupon code especially if you get the extended warranty and the best part about it you can keep the free printer.
