    Default WTB CF-28 Items

    I was given a CF-28 and I need a couple things to make it better for taking back to the sand box with me. I am running 512 mhz ram. 256 on board and 256 in slot. I want to get it up to the 1 ghz that it is supposed to go, I want to install the GPS system and internal WIFI along with anything elst that would make it the kick computer it is able to be. If anyone can help out let me know as I am new to toughbooks and to working on computers.

    I take it to mean "1GB" (RAM amount) instead of "1GHz" (processor speed).

    Check out this: FAQs » Toughbook 28

    This will give you:

    What is the CF-28 Toughbook's storage/memory capacity?

    This depends on the specific model number:

    CF-28M (Mk1) -- On-board: 128MB. Expandable up to 384MB

    CF-28P (Mk2) -- On-board: 256MB. Expandable up to 512MB

    CF-28S (Mk3) -- On-board: 256MB. Expandable up to 768MB

    I want to install the GPS system and internal WIFI along with anything elst that would make it the kick computer it is able to be. If anyone can help out let me know as I am new to toughbooks and to working on computers.

    Chris , Post your full model number so we can get a better picture of what you have. If you have 256 on board your not going to upgrade it to 1gb
    Check out this link The CF-28 F.A.Q. - Read me before posting

    Maximums for CF-28's.

    MK1..600MHz == 384 MB
    MK2..800MHz == 512MB or768 MB
    MK3..1000MHz == 512MB or 768 MB or 1024 MB, depending on amount of onboard memory.

    Edit: guess I am a slow typer

    If you are new to working on computers, recommend not experimenting on this one unless you can afford to get another. The other brands (Dell, HP, etc) won't last long in the sandbox.

    Max ram you can add is a 512MB stick. So that's 768M total if your mobo has 256 on board (as almost all do). For wifi, recommend using a PC card unit. Suggest you might try the 3COM X-Jack model 3CRPA175(B) because the antenna will fit inside the PC card slot cover when not in use.

    Are you in the US? If so shoot me an email springfield98 (at) gmail (dot) com because I have these parts on hand. Will sell at cost to a US serviceman or military support personnel.
