Default X870 3D Laptop With Core i7-3610QM and GeForce GTX 670M

I am very surprised there isn't a thread about this yet as this is a relatively old announcement, about a month old. Anyway the next gen of Qosmio's have been officially announced!

Check here for some cooooool specs:

Here is a blog focusing on the GeForce 6xx GPU. I LOVE the fact that the new Qosmio will have the 670m instead of what most of us would have expected, which would be the 660m.

Apparently it's slated to release in the second quarter of 2012:

    Good find Chiro!

Very good news for the GTX 670m; basically a rebadged GTX 570m, but that's still pretty powerful.

Looks like in terms of design, it keeps the x775 style but looks to be more toned down.

Can't wait to see this launched, hopefully Toshiba resolved the throttling issues they have/had with the x775 and implemented a new cooling design with the x870.

    Thanks, Alex!

I think the main thing I like about the 670 (or the sister-GPU 570, for that matter) is that it is a higher class of GPU than the 560. x60 is a more "budget" chip than the x70 or the x80. Obviously the 680 would be the ideal GPU but that would be way too expensive for the Qosmio class of laptops and you would have to go to Sager or Alienware for about twice the cash.

I think there is a really nice difference between the 560m and the 570m as it is, to make even that jump VERY attractive to gamers. Apparently the 670m is still a little faster than the 570m, even if it is a re-badge. Plus, it does have the virtue of being the "next generation" of GPU chipsets.

Man, if Toshiba would go back to the 18.4 inch I would upgrade without looking back! lol I have the X550-Q893 and I LOVE my screen. Still, with the GPU getting a bump from the x60 to the x70, that is pretty huge! I don't think a lot of people realize the performance bump of going from say a 560 to a 570. It's actually a bigger bump than a 460 to a 560 in most ways.

The difference between a 460M and the 560M is null in most games. Sure there's a little difference, but it's not enough to really justify the upgrade.

The 670M (570M) is around ~40% faster than the 560M. I'll be grabbing one if they hit the markets fast enough... >w<

imglidinhere, that was sort of my point both in this thread and in several of the threads about the present gen Qosmios. When I first purchased my Q893, back in September of 2010, which is now over a year and a half ago, I spend a meager $1,050.00 on it as a sort of "budget gaming machine," but was immediately BLOWN AWAY by how amazing the laptop was for all games I played on it. Even now, newer games are not really challenging my machine. So even though my intent in buying the Q893 (with the 460m GPU) was to buy it, use it for a year, then upgrade to something with more bells and whistles for around the $2K mark, I realized, like you, that there was nothing in the present gen to make me abandon my Q893.

As you noticed, the difference between the 460m and the 560m is marginal at best. But also, I have the 18.4 inch screen. I am not in terrible need of USB 3.0, I think the last gen Qosmios are MUCH more aesthetically beautiful than the newer ones, and for gaming, my pre-Sandy Bridges GPU is just fine!

So why spend the money at this point when I would probably still overall like my machine better than the newer ones?

However, with the 570m, I think that all of a sudden it seems more like a bonafide upgrade to me.

Default Good news for those of you expecting the x870 line!

I went to the main site looking for drivers and scrolled to the bottom of the Qosmio support list and beheld four separate machines for the x870 line!

One of them was an x870 and the other three were x875 machines.

All the drivers for the machine stated 'Beta' so it's something for us Toshibians? is that what we are? o.O

Imglidinhere, t's odd that there is no information about the coming x870 on Toshiba's site even though it is supposed to be launching in June. There are several Internet news articles about it from literally all over the world, but other than your finding the drivers, I can't find any reference to the new Qosmio anywhere on the official site.

    Weird!

It's typical for Toshiba [and most manufacturers] to be officially ignorant of any upcoming releases. However, once they launch they won't shutup about them
