But, when the fan is inside the case, because of the really bad design of the copper pipe and “wings” – wings that cool the pipe, the air running out through the wings will make the BUZZ, very irritating and frustrating.”

SO apparently even replacing the fan with a better quality one, the sound should persist.
If someone experimented a way to modify the air moving inside the laptop, maybe a plastic piece that diverts the flow, please share!
Took the unit apart at the weekened and can confirm that the fan itself is silent. If you remove it from its mounting then no buzz. The buzz is created by the air input channels that are directly below the keyboard side of the case (hence why the buzz can be heard clearly from the keyboard side) and also the exhaust vent. Attempted various methods of additional support to the fan as when you press the left hand side the buzz (vibration) is dampened somewhat but could not get it to stop. Spoils an otherwise excellent unit but cannot get anything else close to the spec so will live with. I have the 11J unit which can play 3D games very well and although did not get for gaming the buzz when the I7 cores are under pressure is something else.
However, the BIOS fix when in eco mode and on battery allows me now to use in meetings without people looking for the fly in the room

Didn't have the chance to check any relevant settings but would love to exchange knowledge if any of us reached a resolution.
So far I have not been able to find a setting to adjust that. Must be some power savings mode ?. Don't see anything in windows that would be causing it. Might be a bios thing.

Either way so far no luck. I have the i3 version.

Also just noticed the z835 only dims automatically when on battery mode, when plugged in the display stays the same brightless regardless of the screen background.

Found the fix, turn of intel 3000 display savings technology. Works great now.

I really love this ultrabook. Way better than the XPS13 that I had.

computer is 3 months old, is this something i should get replaced under warranty?

    1. Lighter weight (very noticeable)
    2. No screen dimness issue (Dell sent me 2 xps13's, both had it, tech support unable to resolve).
    3. Better viewing angles on the display and brightness
    4. More ports than the Dell (no ethernet port or sd slot!)
    5. Better battery life (1hr more for my use vs the dell)
    6. XPS13 touchpad is awful. Very difficult to even scroll vertically with it.

The only thing I liked about the dell was the design/looks. However function wise it was no good for me.

just to update as this thread died really :-)

and heres the reason why.....................been using mine constantly for 5 months or so now and its performed flawlessly, its still as fast as the day i bought it, its still working without issue for everything, all sleep modes, software and drivers, not a single problem encountered. and i get the feeling its very similar for 90% of Z83 series owners out there hence no thread left! lol!

either way, top job from tosh!
