Have you checked what's running the in background? And how much resources, it's using?

Nothing seems to be running at all and it stopped doing it after a couple of times and now i can't seem to get it to do it again which I assume is a good thing.

Love it with the SSD, everythings running smoothly and fairly cool as well. I'll try some lightroom 3 stuff when I ge ta chance but that'll have to wait since I wont be home for a week or so.

Hi guys, still undecided on which Laptop to buy. I'm undecided between this Toshiba r835 and the Sony Vaio SB.

I just wanted to ask, is it easy to upgrade the RAM and add SSD? I'm not sure I'll need an SSD but I'd really like to upgrade the tam to 8gb once I bought it. Is that easy enough to do?

Also, with just the integrated card (as opposed to the Vaio SB discrete) can I still do some light videoediting?

I've never done it before and I managed after thinking about it for a few mins. Had i done it before and werent so scared of breaking anything it'd taken 10 seconds. The SSD is even easier, unscrew 4 screws disconnect old disc and attach that one cable to the new disc and screw everything back again. Had never done that either but it was as simple as anything and bios was set to ACHI so after that I just installed windows using the link a couple of posts back for an OEM windows DVD.

Hope this helps your decision somewhat, never had a laptop run this good but never had a SSD in one either so I'm biased.

So I just got a my R835-P55 today. Till now everything seems fine. The only thing I dont seem to like too much is the touchpad. Any tips on how to improve the sensitivity? I installed the latest drivers but still doesnt seem great, the fine movements seem to be not so great, seems jittery...

Also if I buy an SSD, how do I install Windows 7 on that? If I have it installed in this HDD, how will I be able to install it again with the same product key in a new HDD? Same goes with programs like Office etc. which use product keys.

    Thanks

I have no issues with the touchpad at all. It was actually one of the better touchpads I have seen in laptops. It has been really responsive and two finger scroll all work very well. The only issue I have is that the touchpad buttons are really stiff and hard to press.
Go into mouse option in control panel and go to synaptics tab and you will be able to set sensitivity and various other settings. Play around with them and find the best feel for you.

If you`ll gonna buy a new SSD just use the indications from page 10 for a fresh install. The old product key for windows and office it should work also.
The sensitivity of touchpad you can modify from drivers. Look on the settings of the touchpad.

I have a question regarding WiDi 2.0 on the R835. I bought the netgear ptv2000 adapter and the performance has been real disappointing till now.

Out of the box, WiDi didn't work, I had to spend sometime to update the graphics drivers and the WiDi software and then I was able to connect to the adapter. It works for a while (sometimes 20min, most of the time less then a minute) and then the adapter drops the connection.

Not been able to figure out why my connection keeps getting dropped. Any ideas?

    Thanks

I've had the R835-P56X for about 3 weeks now. It is a great laptop as far as I can tell, but it does run hot. When playing a game (torchlight) or running multiple 1080p videos (I know there's no real world reason to do this) the cpu temps will easily reach the mid 90s, recorded by CPU ID and speedfan.

That is really high for playing torchlight on medium settings at 1200 x 800. I've played this game on an ion netbook with higher settings.

I'm currently using a T410s with a first generation core i5 at work and it doesn't get anywhere near that hot. I can only get it to low 80s with a full blown stress test that maxes CPU while playing multiple 1080p flash videos.

I notice these high temps mainly only occur if the max frequency in the performance monitor goes 100%+, the problem is this happens easily and often. If I change the power management options to adjust cooling by lowering the processor speed the performance hit is too much to even watch one hd video at reasonable quality.

Anyone else running into these temp issues?
