I read this occurrence somewhere else also. The i5 chipset has something like "Optimal Graphics" which means it also has integrated graphics. When on battery, the motherboard automatically switches to the integrated graphics and disables the dedicated. I'm not sure if there is any work around for this (not the case for i7 chipsets).

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Good luck and keep us updated.

    Hi all...
Any word on the 2011 Qosmio x505 Sandy Bridge units?
When will they be available in Canada? At what price?
    Tkx.

You have the i7 version can you play games in battery mode (no power plugged in) at max settings without getting stuttering?

I just played Counter Strike with my laptop unplugged to double check. Yes, it plays fine on battery.

I know the current Qosmios (894, 896, 898) will game on battery; but the next generation Qosmios (i7 with Sandy Bridge) will also have the "Optimal Graphics" so I don't know if they will be able to game unplugged.

    Good luck.

Greetings all, this is my first-time post, my apologies for not doing so before now.

Recently, I purchased an X500/06c and so far I'm really enjoying this behemoth of a machine.

    Qosmio X500/06C
    i7 840QM, 8GB DDR3 (1066MHz), 1.25TB (500GB (7200rpm) + 750GB (5400rpm) SATA, NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX460M

Having read through the forum posts and of course this Official owners Lounge I can see that this will be a grand machine for the types of work and gaming that I will do.

I want to thank you all for the guidance and insights within these posts and congratulate you on job well done.

Hoping to be involved a little more in the future.

    Regards
    Red Mayor

    Welcome Red mayor!

    Red,

Question, did your reseller upgrade your card from the i7 740qm, or was your i7 840qm cpu standard.

I think if it was standard the people in the states got jobbed

It is standard CPU for the Austraila/New Zealand Market.

Compared to some of the prices that were quoted here in this Thread and around the boards it was rather expensive though (NZD $4899.50, somewhere around USD $3,736.36). The 505 model isn't available down here.

Thanks for the welcome Chaps it is most heartily received.

    Congrats

Europe also use X500, but i think the biggest CPU here only is the 740
