Re: Official x300/x305 Owner's Lounge
i say hands down the x305-q706. i get 8426 on 3dmark 06, the q706 will probably get 10,500 at least. the gateway might manage 9,500 absolute max.

Re: Official x300/x305 Owner's Lounge
the q705, but its just like mine except with a 320gb hard drive. and supposedly it states on the website that i can potentially have more allocated memory. plus mine is now only $1000 and the q705 is $1500. 120gb of space is not worth $500.

Re: Official x300/x305 Owner's Lounge
Ok, opened the box last night and have a few reflections as well:
Took nearly 2 hours to burn the recovery discs. No big deal, I expected it.
Feels solid overall (for a desktop replacement, ie: I won't be moving this thing around often). Lid hinge is tight and solid and doesn't wiggle when opened.
Won't be committing any crimes with this thing, as my fingerprints are EVERYWHERE!
Sound is great, even with the 80's style volume wheel.
Out of the box, there were about 70-71 processes running. My previous laptop (which doesn't have Bluetooth, Mic, Webcam, etc) is solid at about 42. Then again, I haven't optimized it yet and only have removed some of the bloatware it shipped with.
Screen looks good, and I don't think I'll miss higher resolution too much. Besides, with HDMI output, I'll be gaming on a 42" or bigger 1080p screen as soon as I can afford one!
That's about it right now. Haven't done anything else but install World of Warcraft. Next is to remove Norton 360 and see if the McAfee software work provides will work in 64-bit (I know our VPN software won't, but I'm sure I can make due with a 3rd party software).
All in all, very happy with the laptop so far. Runs quiet and cool (so far, but I don't suspect WoW to heat this thing up much either). This will stay on the desk, my current laptop (once fixed) will be my travel laptop (until I can afford a 9" EEEPC or some other ultraportable for work!).
Special thanks to Dude55. Without your link to the q701 on Best Buy, I would've kept looking at the q705 or q706! And thanks for the guide in the first post.

Re: Official x300/x305 Owner's Lounge
Ah, I am glad that you took advantage of the deal. It's good that your enjoying it. For $1000, it cannot be beat at all. Even at $1500, its a good price, but not compared to the q701, basically the same thing at $1000 now.
But, tell me how it is when everything is set up for you.
also, if you don't mind, try posting a 3dmark 06 score. i want to see someone with a q701 or q705 that has a similar score to mine.

Re: Official x300/x305 Owner's Lounge
I got 7.8K without overclocking on my q701. Man, I am very tempted to get the q706 but that ugly RED. I just wonder sli 9800gts should perform very similar to sli8800gtx. In that case, xps m1730 pulling a 13K 3dm06 should be a match to what q706 can do. Ofcourse the CPU upgrade is mandatory but after putting a x9100, you should be able to get may be 14K (ie sli 9800gt can pull that kind of a score.)
