I'm shopping for my first notebook. And i've 99% decided I want a vaio.

I like the Z1 series the most (except for the 16mb graphics [:(!]) and would take one no questions if it wasn't for the price being around 300.00 to 500.00 English Pounds more than the A series.

So why tell me are the A series far superior in specification and a lot cheaper? they still look the business with the similar Z styling. I'd love to see some high res decent pics of the A as I cant find any. I don't like the sound of all this port replicator stuff with the A, its just added bulk - which the Z doesn't require? I'm too new to the notebook world to make sense of these technicalities, anyone who can point me in the direction of the pros and cons of each would be a great help for me.

So whats the score with these 2 series?

The title of this thread is Z vs S series, where as the body refers to Z vs A series. I will assume you mean A series since you mentioned it more. I will however say that you should be comparing the Z series to the S series as they are closer in use...

Right on this site it says, "The Sony VAIO Z1 is Sony’s entry into the thin and light style notebook market. Targeted at business users..."

As for the A series is a desktop replacement from what I can remember.

First thing about notebooks, the lighter the more expensive. IF you are new to notebooks, you can think of it as a desktop vs a notebook. A desktop is often twice or more times as power as a notebook, the reverse holds true as far as price is concerned.

So it comes down to one question, do you want a big powerful notebook (the A) or a small portable notebook (the Z).

I Will also tell you that I am awaiting the release of the S series since it will have the new pentium dothan CPU, is very lightweight and has 64 MB of videoram. The Z and A I could care less about since my opinion is that the S porvides a lot more portability than the A and a lot more power than the Z.
