Anyone else experiencing erratic and uncontrollable pointer when using the touchpad? When I restart the issue goes away, but comes back after a few minutes making the laptop unusable without an external mouse. I checked the Lenovo website forum and so far I see a couple Y500 owners are having this issue. No touchpad drivers available on the site either. Also, my touchpad feels a little clunky and has some give before the the actual click. Trying to figure out if this is a hardware issue due to poor build quality or driver related.

if it's anything like the Y580/480, there's only one clicker in the center. Left click and right click will normally have some give.

Yeah, my Y500's touchpad went cuckoo last night for the first time in 3 days. Once I put the computer to sleep and woke it back up everything was fine. Hope this is something they can fix with a software update!

Having one clicker in the center makes sense why the left and right side of the touchpad would slightly rock or give before clicking. It sucks when they pretty much get everything else right (cooling, audio, keyboard, etc.) and put out a clunky touchpad. I also noticed when I put my Y500 to sleep the touchpad issue momentarily goes away. I checked the official Lenovo forum and no one from Lenovo has responded yet to this issue.

Mine is almost unusable now. Posted in other thread. Anyone done driver updates that helped the problem?

I've looked everywhere and there is no updates or support for this issue. My Y500 is completely unusable w/out an external mouse. Probably going to send it back don't have time to mess with this issue. I'm disappoint.

Ok I uninstalled and reinstalled the touchpad drivers from the hard drive that came with it (I put in my own ssd). It's working fine now and I'll see if the issue comes back then give another update.

Well, I'm back to having an unusable touchpad. Only lasted a couple hours. I'm returning this what a shame.

Can someone post a youtube video of this? I can't seem to recreate the issue on my Y480. However, I did immediately install Windows 7 on it.

no video needed. if you had the issue you would know it cursor jumps around and clicker stops working. Did you install the latest win7 driver form chinese lenovo site on win7 Wonder if this driver would help on win 8.

maybe it's just a software problem

uninstall the driver and use the basic microsoft driver that comes with windows.

You won't get the fancy crap that comes with the synaptics driver, but at least it should work in a basic way

I deleted the touchpad from the Device Manager and rebooted. The system repaired windows automatically, and I never had that problem again. :)

I tried using the basic MS driver and even that didn't work. It always comes back after an hour or two. I've also tried uninstalling from device manager with no success. I called Lenovo and returning it.

I tried removing the device and driver and my system became unstable with the cursor jumping around EVEN WITH T650 PAD. We have the problem with TWO y500's. I have to think it is a software problem. If not, then lenovo has a lemon on their hands.

I strongly urge anyone interested in this laptop to hold off purchasing until this issue s sorted out. I have over $2,000 of mostly unusable junk.

Has anyone tried the driver on the Chinese site for win7 inside win8? It is a newer driver.

I returned my Y500 today because of the touchpad issue and I recommend everyone else that has the issue do the same. After the 21 day return window you'll get stuck it. Lenovo is offering no support on their website with any bios or touchpad driver updates to solve the issue. Not a good sign.

I also suspect that this is a software issue. I'm going to update my drivers off the chinese site and see if the issue comes back. It's happened at least once a day for me but it is a easy fix, all I had to do with put the computer to sleep and wake it back up and the problem goes away. I wonder if it has something to do with the Lenovo Intelligent Touchpad 2.0 software, have no idea what this thing does but I have not tried disabling it yet. That will be next if the issue comes back after the driver update.
