    Lenovo takes a swing at the MacBook Pro Retina, introduces the Ultra HD 4K Y50 | News | TechRadar

    Wow such slim very red much y500 wow.

    R9 M270+3840x2160+4702HQ+16GB, 999$ base config

    Oh, and it's under an inch thick :

    [IMG]

    3840x2160, you heard me right, highest laptop display on the market right now. QFHD Glory. However this will be optional and you can still get a standard FHD display.

    Y40 is also confirmed, but it's screen resolution is not, so it could be 1600x900, 1920x1080 or even 3200x1800.

    Also this laptop will have touch. RIP glorious matte display that the Y510p was praised for.

    Above picture appears to be the Y40. Also, rear placed usb ports!

    So they put the Y510p/yY410p on an extreme diet, added a 4K screen, R9 M270 = 7870M, hiked up the price, and it probably overheats even more now?

    Meh.

    From the looks of it, yeah. Guess they are ditching the whole gaming laptop thing and focusing on multimedia instead.

    This 4K notebook crap feels like a pis5ing contest. PPI of 1080p on 15.6" is fine. Screen size is so small that you're gonna be running 200% DPI scaling anyway, so the screen real estate is gonna be the same whether you quadruple the resolution or not. It'll be nice if it's IPS but the screen on the Y510p isn't horrible to begin with. Why not make improvements in areas that make an actual difference, e.g. build quality and thermals? If this is being marketed as a gaming Ultrabook, don't they know that we're gonna be gaming at 1080p or lower with that GPU anyway?

    Link's down. Dem leaks.

    @Octi

    They are targeting this at the Apple crowd, it seems. While 4K is far too much for 15 inch, QHD (2560x1440) can be adequate.

    And I don't agree with that. For a gaming notebook, I think 1080p is the practical limit for a 15" considering physical screen size and GPU horsepower. 1440p only makes sense to me for 17" and 18" with SLI/CrossFire.

    Wow, that's a pretty impressive multimedia machine for a grand. Agree with everyone, don't think the R9 M270 will be able to push any 4K gaming "nicely", but shouldn't have a problem @1080P. Think the 4K abilities will mostly be photo/videos.

    Not even 1080p. More like 900p. The 270M is most likely a rebranded 8790M, which is tied with the 755M. So in the performance department, the Y50 is not much of an upgrade from the current laptops, i'd even say a downgrade considering the 4702HQ is weaker than the 4700MQ.
