I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread with all the information pertaining to replacing the (lackluster) display that comes with the Y50.

Information such as which displays will work, how to change it out, videos, links and anything else that can help those wishing to upgrade the display on their Y50.

Post information here, and I'll eventually format the OP with sections, and make it more streamlined. I try to keep this post up-to-date, but if you see some information posted that you think belongs in this original post, send me a PM with it (I might at times be slow reading all new posts).

Note: this thread is about the FHD (1080p) displays, not the UHD.

    Y50 Displays
There currently seem to be two types of panels used
    *AUO36ED (AU Optronics)
    *CMN15C4 (Chi Mei)
*The CMN panel apparently suffers from a yellowish tint. Both panels suffer from poor colour reproduction and bad viewing angles.

    Compatible screen requirements
    *30 pin eDPs
*Y50 uses four screws to hold the display in place

    Compatible screens
*B156HAN01.2 - confirmed by testpecimen - IPS panel
*B156HAN01.1 - confirmed by Shadowvain - IPS panel
*LP156WF4(SP)(B1) - confirmed by AltCtrl - IPS panel
*LP156WF4(SP)(D1) - Confirmed by shillydwagon - Matte IPS panel

    Guides and how-to's
*Y50 panel removal guide (courtesy of shillydwagon)
*http://www.laptopscreen.com/ (lots of resources here, including video guides)**This site can ship "compatible" displays - make sure to specifically order the exact panel you want by contacting them.
    *ghyeng posted some good info

    Where to buy
Ebay - lcdtech889 sells the B156HAN01.1, make sure to specifically request that particular panel
laptopscreen.com - Contact LSB here on the forums for more info

Mine is touchscreen - will I lose touch by replacing (does the replacement need to be an IPS touch screen) or is touch functionality something to do with the glass face?

If I need a replacement screen that is itself touch, what IPS touch screen would work?

    Thanks!

When looking for a replacement screen, what are some requirements to finding a compatible screen? Is it limited to the 3 screens ive seen on the component sheet, or can it just be any 15 inch, 30 pin screen?

I have a Sager NP8130 with a 95% ntsc color gamut screen, hardware id: MONITOR\LEN40B2. I want to make the swap and put it in my Y50, would it be compatible?

Pulled out my Y50 non-touch, matte, monitor today to investigate a replacement. Though I'd share pics. Hope this helps the discussion.

    Great idea!
Never replaced a screen myself so this should come in handy.
