Hey there Consi... Sorry for not getting back to your PM sooner - been a bit busy with a bricked phone - LOL.

So, I8Kfancrap errrr I mean GUI. The simple answer is NO. I would NOT use this on any system not listed in the creator's compatibility notes (http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/). The thing is old - and is not being worked on. Its dead software and using it you are risking a dead GPU.

If you are worried about thermals - just take a nice blast of compressed air to your M1710. Be sure to insert a paper clip in between the fan blades to prevent them from spinning at an unsafe RPM as you air blast it.

Also, you may want to look into the laptopvideo2go 185.66 or 185.68 drivers. These provide very cool thermals and are top notch. You can also cool your lappie by raising up the back of it - prop it up with a CD Wallet. Always worked for me when I had my M1710.

It works fine up until the Vostro 1500 era but not with XPS models at all

Yeah - the problem as I recall is the app just doesn't interpret the data from the GPU correctly thus the fan isn't running at the proper time / proper RPM... at leas tthat is what I remember reading somewhere.

Haha! I use i8kfangui on my M1710! Just on passive mode to tell me the temps. I'd never use it to control the fans!

I think its pretty useful anyway!
