Newer firmware seems to have PCH temps higher. XPS has a crazy low PCH threshold for fans...near 40*C on the 9550. I put a few thermal pads between the PCH and case bottom and that helped a lot. I will try another 0.5mm.

I don't have anything else heatsinked to the case bottom so that works as a decent heatsink.

I need an expert advise, and experts are plenty in here!

I'm changing my system from a 4K version into the FHD one. I will in 3 days have the FHD with me, and since I have gone through loads of tweaking and patching, I'm thinking of just swapping out the SSD from the 4K - which I have completely set up as I want - and given that both systems have the PCIe NVMe drive, its just going to be a direct swap.

My question....... Will I have any problems doing so? I know that the ONLY difference is the screen, so would I run into pot-holes doing so?

Things that I think will have to deal with are like:

    1. Windows Activation
    2. Dell Premiere Color App - which is installed because I have the 4K LCD
    3. TPM 2.0 and Fingerprint Biometric Data (will reset both)

Anything else that I should expect to deal with?

Finally, if it's going to be a bad move, What software can I use for imaging the older 4K SSD into the FHD one? thus not having to deal with starting from scratch! will Windows Backup and Restore be enough (Built-in tool in Windows 10), or better off use Macrium Reflect or AOMIE Backupper?

    Bright Ideas anyone?

    Will

If you use Bitlocker, be sure to turn it off first on the old computer.

    Hello everyone,
I know that a few folks in here have been owners of the XPS 15 9530 and have now moved on to the XPS 15 9560. So I thought this might be the best place to ask this:

With the current 12% deal on the XPS laptops I might buy the XPS 15 9560 with the following configuration:

My current laptop is a Dell XPS 15 9530 with the top configuration:

    So the main differences are:

FHD, i7-7700HQ, Intel HD630, GTX 1050, Faster M.2 NVME SSD
    vs
    QHD, i7-4702HQ, Intel HD4600, GT 750M

    1. Would I notice an real performance differences?
    2. Would I cry about my old QHD screen and hate the FHD? Scaling sucks on Linux and also FHD brings better battery life. For gaming I use an external screen 144Hz.
    3. Since I am on Linux, I am using the iGPU at 99%. The dGPU only gets activated when I explicit say so (e.g. run a game with NVIDIA). Would the iGPU upgrade make the system run noticeable better?
    4. Any other differences that I might be happy or sad about?

    Thanks in advance!

It does work quite well now, it will install several new devices, I would consider running DDU (display driver uninstaller) and wiping out the video drivers before you shutdown for the swap., uninstalled premier color as well and delete the local fingerprints/pin.
It should reactivate when needed via the BIOS key if you are staying on the same version.

If you removed Dell PrimerColor how do you control gamut?

Just did another @iunlock mod to my new 9560 and everything is running like a top. Totally recommend it, lol. This time I did NOT use Conductonaut as I had a hell of a time cleaning up the heatsink when I sold my last one, lol.
