I bought a dell DW316 external DVD optical drive to compliment my Dell XPS 15 laptop. The drive reads just fine but when I tried to burn a CD or DVD is where I ran into problems. I tried the drive on another computer and it burns just fine. I am assuming that since my laptop didn't come with a built-in DVD player, it is lacking the proper driver and/or software. No driver software came with the drive and the Dell site says no driver is needed. When I insert a blank CD or DVD, File Explorer says 0 bytes used and 0 bytes available. There is no "Send to" option available either. I have been scouring the web for the past few days looking for a fix without luck. My OS is Windows 10 Home. Not sure if this matters, but my XPS came with 1T SSD and no traditional hard drive.

So, my question is: what do I need to do to make my external optical drive writable?
