I just checked the website for dell and was shocked that the xps 1210 was priced at $1344. So I then called customer service and he told me that, that was their starting price now. Its because they only offer one hard drive, the 160GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive which is an $145 upgrade. My question is will their original price of $1199 be back? I hope so, cause before it was a little out of my range, but now this is definally out of my range. Excuse my rant, just a little pissed...

Do what I did. Go to Dell outlet and just buy system there. I got one previously ordered new for $1400 that would have been $2200 if configured the same way on the regular Dell website.

It might take you a day or two of sitting at Dell outlet hitting refresh constantly, but I'm sure eventually you'll see something very close to what you originally wanted at only a fraction of the price.

I just ordered my M1210 from CostCo, so, that's another option, though they only have two variations. One for $1200 base package and one for $1400 with the Go7400 and A/V package. I purchased the latter.

    Just some FYI

Military members can get a decent discount on the m1210 (and many Dell products) by going to the AAFES.com website, where they have a special made to order section specifically from Dell. Please note this is NOT the same as Dell's EPP DoD program.

The m1210 starts at $1020 (1.83 C2D, 1GB, 60GB, Integrated video, CDRW). Upgrades cost the same as the regular Dell website, but coupons can NOT be used when ordered from the AAFES website.

It is also worth noting that purchases from AAFES are both shipped free and TAX FREE!

Dell outlet all the way! I have been keeping my eyes open for a deal. Today I saw a Core 2 Duo 1.86, 1GB 667mhz RAM, 120GB HD, Nvidia 7400, DVD Burner, and Bluetooth all for $989. And it was previously ordered new! Right as I hit add to card though, another customer snatched it up!! :(

They probably realized that a bunch of people are ordering the smallest, cheapest HD, and just upgrading it with one from newegg. So they just stick you with the most expensive one by default. Kind of like how you can't order it with less than 1GB of ram.

    Hehe.

If I bought one new and they gave you the option of 512RAM, I could just picture myself going with the 512 RAM and buying two 1Gb sticks from newegg right after placing my order...

it looks like they drop the price back down to $1199 which means the base harddive is a 60 GB instead of 160. maybe it was a weekend stunt since most people buy their comps over the weekend? strange...
