    Sorry, it's an M17X R4 I believe.

As the title states, I'm looking for a replacement card for my ole Alienware. I think it's the 17x R4.

It came stock with a HD7970m and seems to be bad.

I can run the laptop until I get into a game or other graphics demanding task and it freaks out with lines across the screen.

I'd image that the dedicated video card has gone bad.

Not even exactly sure what will fit this older Alienware to be honest. I'd guess that a 970/980m or HD7970 or something similar would fit?

Any suggestions, help, or direction to get a replacement would be very much appreciated.

    FOUND! Thanks everyone :)

Oh jeez, I'm not sure it would work in the alienware? I would be interested if it will work.

Yes, I'm interested in that. Shoot me a price via PM man. I can't seem to find how to PM you.

Yes the 1070 will work in the M17x R4 and it's significantly more powerful (and more expensive) than the 7970M or 680M. The rule was that you needed the 120Hz display (which you won't have with your AMD card) but it could still be possible with the 60Hz display coupled with the unlocked BIOS, from what I have read.

    That's interesting @Maxware79 .

How does one go about getting the "unlocked BIOS"?

Is there a thread regarding the BIOS with links?

    Thanks for posting this.

TechInferno was always the place to go for the unlocked BIOS' but you have to make 5 or 8 posts to be able to download it for free. I think I have it on a USB somewhere but I'd have to try and find it, hopefully I haven't deleted it.
Some unlocked BIOS' can be found in the Alienware section on this forum but I'm not sure about the M17x R4

Is the card UK based or are you? LOL. If you are in the UK I'm not sure what shipping would be like. :p
