Because 32nm runs hot as hell, that's why. That, and HD 4000 iGPU makes the HD3000 look like a joke.

    Huh?

    https://www.pcworld.com/article/254...ps_appear_to_run_hotter_when_overclocked.html

I can hold 4.5Ghz 4 core in my 2920XM on air cooling. I yield the point about hd 3000 vs 4000 but even then it’s not the massive jump you make it out to be. More than likely he will be pairing it with a discrete GPU anyway

The argument still applies. I top out at around 4.1-4.2 GHz in my 3920XM vs 4.5 on my 2920XM, same heatsink and fan setup using liquid metal.

Ivy Bridge has 10% higher IPC IIRC so it all balances itself out in the end.

6% ipc gain and the 3920XM is a more expensive chip compared to 2920XM, so from a value standpoint the 2920XM wins.

Wow didn't realize the price of 2920XM was cheaper than the 3XXX series in some cases.

It will work in M14xR2 right?

    I know 3920XM works in M14xR2 so maybe I'll go with 2920XM.

ivy bridge only was a die shrink right? No new features?
