That's strange because they share the same chip number for GDDR5 and GDDR5X version on GP104 1060 and 1070, maybe 1080 only support GDDR5X memory, did you tried a Quadro P5200 core ? also it might be vbios or drivers related issue..
@ll_r1d0_ll this video proove nothing more than there is a chip number that correspond only to 1060 with 160bit memory bus width, whil a 1060 with 192bit memory bus width don't have the same chip number. Furthermore you can't say 970M and 970 are the same MODEL there is no relation between these card except that they share GM204 core and the "x70" naming scheme, simple exemple would be GTX770M vs GTX770 where they don't even have the same core (GK106 vs GK104) but shared the same naming scheme.
If you want to upgrade core a mxm card you should get a 980M, otherwise you would need to solder new memory chip etc

Tesla M6 might work too, on internal and supposedly LVDS screen because it doesn't have any wired video output (more precisely, a lot of SMD were removed) as I can see from picture found on the web

Hi, I have a quadro k1000m from my 1060 upgrade. I am willing to give it away just for shipping costs :)

The only issue is that I tightened the heatsink bracket a bit too tight and I was unable to remove it. I managed to remove one screw, others were slightly stripped. Hence I had to buy 1060 with new heatsink.

I am attaching some pics for reference. Let me know if you want them.

    My post for some reference,
