Looking to buy GTX 970m with dead core or nearly dead showing symptoms. Vrams should be working fine as i am thinking of removing the DEAD Core and installing the DESKTOP'S GTX 970 Core in it :)
EDIT 1: Should be a 6GB card and compatible with Alienware 17 R1
EDIT 2: Looking for any spare NVIDIA or ATI GPU working/Faulty anyone willing to giveaway (I will pay for the shipping)

GTX970, GTX980, GTX980M are all 256bit memory bus width while the GTX970M is 192bit, so you would need to solder new memory chip and other SMD to properly upgrade your card.

i thought it had nothing to do with the memory because there are DESKTOP GTX 1060's with 5GB of VRAM even though the core was the same of GTX 1060 but with different VRAM (5GB)

I could never figure out if memory interface is tied to vbios or the core. Since no one has added memory chips to the 1080 ti and 2080 ti and crossflash vbios for full 384 bit I'm thinking it is tied to the core. I could be wrong though.

Do the 6GB and 5 GB 1060's have the same exact part number? Ex GP106-400 vs GP106-300? usually the -number indicates the core's configuration, with 400 being fully enabled.

no idea which chip it had as i saw the video on youtube by " Linus Tech Tips " .. you can check that as well . I personally dont think that memory is tied up with the CORE after watching this video

I've tried putting 1080 cores on 1070s twice. It 100% does not work. Error 43 each time with no card function other than thermal sensor. Memory interface appeared to be fully non-functional.
