i have a dv4130us laptop. the wireless button wont light up when i press it so i can only use the internet when im connected with a wire. the BIOS says the wireless is on, and there are no errors or conflicts. the buttong wont light up when i press it so im wondering if its a hardware problem or somethingabout unloading and reloading drivers. i cant get it to work, any ideas?

Well some HP laptops need the appropriate wireless drivers installed for the wireless button to light up. I would try uninstalling the current HP wireless drivers you have and then reinstalling with the newest ones.

If this doesn't work it could be a hardware issue.

Yes you can go to control panel/system/device manager and right click on it and uninstall it. However I suggest you restart the notebook and reinstall the new driver. Try this and see if the problem persists.

I have exactly the same problem just a few minutes ago. When I tried to press the manual switch on the laptop, the light won't turn on. The HP Assistant also won't allow me to turn on the wireless adapter.

I tried to remove the drivers and install a new one but still the adapter won't turn on. Windows device manager lists the adapter as working properly.

The HP Chat support told me that it's a problem on the switch so she gave me a link to download the Quick Launch button program. Again, it didn't work. Any solutions? Maybe some Windows XP Update conflicts? I remembered last using this before a windows update.

I have a similar, though much more serious, problem on my dv6000 laptop. My wireless stop working altogether. The wireless light won't turn blue and the wireless adapter is gone from the device manager. About once every 10 days it will come back to life, but usually only until the next hibernation or turn-off. I've tried reinstalling and updating both the broadcomm drivers and hp wireless assistant. I think it is a hardware problem, though I cannot rule out a bad driver since the problem is sometimes related to hibernation/stand by, and some other people are facing similar problems with their wireless and hibernation. HP wants me to send in my laptop, but I cannot afford to be w/out my laptop for the moment.

I have a Compac Presario V6000Z, pretty much the same machine as the HP DV6000. I have the exact same problem, when the machine hibernates the wireless connection is lost, but the HP Wireless Assistant says it is connected, then I go to the Device Manager and it has a red X on the wireless card but it says it is enabled....then in one of the property boxes it says that there are not enough resources....Does not make sense. I have to restart the computer to get the wireless connection back. A real pain. Does anyone know if you can uninstall the HP Wireless Assistant?? I am at a loss.

HP wireless Assistant was one of the first things I removed from my DV9207us. Yes, you can remove it.

Just an update of my case. I got a replacement wireless card from HP, but that didn't change anything. The problem turned out to be the motherboard. I sent my laptop back to HP and they changed it and now the wireless is working again.

i am experiencing these same problems. i can not go without my computer for work, so i bought a wireless usb card thingy and it works. i am at work now so i am looking this all up on their net while my laptop is booting up. well now the wireless light is on. i gotta check to see if its even listed. when i checked device manager, it didnt show any wireless device as if mine wasnt there. im going to send it in to hp since i still have the manufacturers warranty. i cant be dealing with this every few months.

If the light stay's orange and all drivers have been updated (bios and wireless) and Device Manager does not see the Broadband wireless card then it's most likely the motherboard. Hp know's about this and will fix it for free, you must call them and go through some steps with a tech, once they believe it's the motherboard they will send you a box to ship it to them. As mine is there now getting this problem fixed.

I've never trusted the Hibernation or Sleep (standby) modes in Windows. I've always shut down my computer when it was not in use. Things just don't come back to life like they should when you use those modes. Microsoft needs to fine tune that in the future.

    Hello,

Did HP honour the repair past your 1 year warranty with them?

I am having the same problem (no wireless adapter recognized.. perpetual orange LED) after pulling the plug from a dv6110ca that was without the battery (since it could only hold 2 seconds of charge).

I just had the same problem with my wife's HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop.

It was working fine, then just stopped recognizing the wireless card. My daughter had been using it, so I was in doubt as to what had/hadn't been done to it software-wise (virus?). So I ran the complete recover to restore everything to the state when it was new.

Still can't recognize the wireless. The indicator light stays orange no matter which position the switch is in.

So I google "HP dv6000" looking for a manual, and the FIRST thing I find is a Recall notice http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277 Yeah, I know, they're covering their butts by calling it a
"Limited Warranty Service Enhancement" but they basically know that these machines were defective from the date of manufacure. They told me that my machine didn't qualify for the free service because it was 9 months past the warranty extension and tried to get me to shell out $250 for a new mother board.

Maybe I'll try the external wireless card solution, but it sounds like the MB will probably go bad next. I've owned a bunch of HP computers (have four of them working in the house right now) but I'll probably be looking at Dell next time around.
