I have seen some people do it. The qeustion I have is, if I get 2gb of memory for my mini, can I upload windows vista on it that is from my inspiron 1501? I have the disk that came from dell, but can I have both Vista Home Premium OSs run on both computers?

It will probably work for about a month and then the Mini will probably ask you for your CD key from the 1501. When it goes to activate, it'll see that its already been activated on another machine.

Just call Microsoft and say that you uninstalled it from the 1501 and they should override it. If you have any Dell XP reinstall discs, this is not an issue.

I'd be very interested to find out how the Mini handles Vista. Do post and let us know :)

Works just fine...don't listen to anyone that says otherwise.

Hate to say it but the I910 w/1GB RAM Vista SP1 almost seems as responsive as the Studio 17 runnin' Vista x64 w/4GB RAM. SSD space is an issue though...have @3GB left on the drive but Vista doesn't seem to mind;)

Hello. If I was to go to circuit city, best buy or staples. Do you know what is the model number so I can upgrade the RAM to 2GB? On the Mini?

Sounds like a geek quest! I hope that it works out for you. Although, I feel like that would be painful without 2 g's of ram and a dual core processor. Though to be fair, I have never tried vista on a single core. Hope the Atom is up to it.

The Dell CD looks for a Dell BIOS. However, I am not sure if the Mini acts in the same way Dell desktops and notesbooks do. However if you did manage to have it recognized you would be violating the licensing agreement since you didn't pay for the additional copy for Vista.

I am pretty sure you can not transfer the key from the 1501 to the mini unless you paid for a retail copy. If the 1501 came with vista on it, it is probably an oem version and is tied to the machine it was purchased with. You won't be able to transfer it to any other machine.

cat_mom is correct. If your 1501 came with Vista from the factory then it's an OEM version which is tied to that machine. If you have a retail version then you can do it just fine, but you may have to call up Microsoft to let them know you have fully removed it from the 1501 and wish to transfer it to your Mini 9. If you want some tips in getting Vista installed on the Mini 9 please visit my site: http://rickatnight11.com/?p=71.
