Imo you can better use a 3rd party tool if you only want to get rid off the metro start menu
(see also the comment of Dustin Harper on the page you linked to).

The "every day" user shouldn't even try to watch at W8 Developer Preview. It isn't for them.

Nor should he mess with those things. Else he'll be irritated where all his metro style apps are gone, and similar stuff.

Actually, the everyday user will not care, but just enjoy that new shiny win8. because that's what he payed for. Not the old and uncool win7. Obviously.

It's only the geeks who have, ironically, problems with such changes.

Indeed, but when W8 comes out the problem could still be there... But at the time, no. But i have tested win8 for some hours today too, and i have to say that i found many things that annoyed me, and that might potentially cause the same feel for other users... Though Win8 was a lot better after i disabled the Metro, although with metro gone, you couldent really see too much difference from win7, it could as well be an update : /

I somehow think that in final version one would have an option to choose between work environments, classic or Metro, which one to use as default. Dunno why I have such a feeling. Maybe because for me it makes a lot of sense :D.
Win8 will definitely be harder on geeks :D, because of the changes.
Switching from XP to Win7 on the other hand, was quite easy for me :D. I've forgotten all about XP the same minute I turned my computer with Win7.

the reason that people want to disable metro right now is just, 99% of what they do is outside of metro. that'll change first time with the consumer preview, where there are actually useful apps in metro, and developers can start to put apps into the store (and the store works).

once that happened, there's much less need to ever leave metro, especially for ordinary users. and metro-world is so much more simple, and with so much less possibilities to mess up your system, that people will be happy in there..

right now, you can only experience "metro feel" by switching between ie10 and, dunno, that fingerpaintapp? those are the two only that i've used so far. oh, and settings.

I agree, Metro just doesn't have much of a use at the moment. It's just a fullscreen start menu.

I much prefer metro windows and task manager etc though.
