Yeah I did the script above, if anyone actually bothered to follow the link in my query. I originally created a separate thread for this issue I'm experiencing in the Alienware M18x R2 forum, but a mod there threw it in here, I'm simply following up on my original question.

so every time i boot from a cold boot it would show the alienware logo then go straight to a black screen (with no black light). if i reboot the computer it boots fine.

i have no idea what's causing this and i think it has to do with something in Win 10. i have tried a reformat and that still didn't work so i have reverted back to 8.1.

Strange! Hopefully not an omen for the final release of Windows 10. I was gonna say it might be something to do with your non-standard graphics card, but other people like Mr. Fox didn't have these problems with a non-standard card and Win 10. Congrats on the new card by the way, and also on the good overclock you've got running on it, so wish my R3 was compatible with Maxwell - I'd be slapping a 970M in there & overclocking it within an inch of it's life!

Well, win 8.1 boots fine so it has to be something in the OS as I am using the 980M with both. I also doubt you that the nvidia drivers but I have no substantial proof.

Nvidia drivers are really screwing with me with their refusal to work from a cold boot and causing a black screen at start up :(

not gonna bother any more till release.

At least you're not alone. Misery loves company. It seems that NVIDIA has become pretty incompetent (or maybe just unethical) at driver development.

It's nuts because it's so close to release. For me right now win 8.1 is still functional with the help of classic shell.
