I just did a clean install of my ”old” laptop. It was upgraded from stock Win 10 Home to Pro, but when I reinstalled it defaulted to Home. The Pro key still worked, but I had to do the whole upgrade procedure.

I checked my keys before the install, and both Home and Pro was there, but Home seem to be hardcoded. Can I change this so that the hardcode is Pro?

You can't change the built in key in the BIOS but to install Pro from the get go and not have to do the upgrade, follow this guide:

How to select Windows Home or Pro when installing Windows 10
