I just wish the Aussie dollar was doing a little better but it's still a decent price. Hopefully the shipping doesn't kill me. How does the standard 3-pipe heatsink go with the 1070?

Are you buying an MSI card or standard MXM? If the former then you will need to mod the heatsink and the mxm port slightly. There is a tutorial by DaMafiaGamer here on how to do it.

No it looks like he has a standard MXM so I'd like to grab that one. I'd prefer not to have to do any mods even though the MSI card is better.

So far so good... my KSP looks great! I love that I am not worrying about the PSU tripping from the dual 980s and that the heat sink fits so the keyboard and frames fit the way they should.

My gut feel is that the ole M18xR2 is running on borrowed time. I will keep at it until either I hit a game it can't play well (Cyberpunk 2077?) or the motherboard dies. Then it is a slim BGA (shudder!!!!) for the convenience/light weight and a desktop when I need the power (I have a 1070 in there now, but could always go nuts). Maybe once RTX is actually in wide usage.

If games supported SLI properly I would be running COD: Modern Warfare right now maxed out at 1080p on my M18x...

Can't justify spending $$$ on the M18x right now with my Area-51m and desktop

Will a 1070 in your M18x not handle COD MW at 1080p maxed out? :)

Oh it will. I get 30fps with my single 780M so if I had SLI working it'd be up to 60fps. My point is one of my GPUs is being wasted.

I would LOVE a Quadro P5200 in my M18x, even a 1070 but I'm just wasting $$$ to make a third gaming computer play recent titles.

    I already have my AW Area-51m with i9-9900K/RTX 2080 and it's more portable, has 144Hz G-Sync panel

and I also have my desktop Intel Xeon E5-1660V3 (8-cores)/AMD Radeon VII hooked up to my 55" 4K TV & 110" projector.

If I find a 1070 for cheap one of these days I might do it. Or if we get some newer GPU working (Maybe next gen in MXM Type-B or even 2000 series) I might consider it.

If I only had my M18x, it would have a Quadro P5000 by now in it. I was going to buy one a year ago I think and it was a decent price, just didn't justify it at the time due to school.

I agree 1070 is the perfect upgrade for our M18x right now. Price new from eBay isn't tooooo bad either.
