Well, perhaps I'm flogging a dead horse but after my 16 year old broke his third take to school laptop this year, I decided to solve the breakage problem and help build up his upper body strength... I went to my closet and resurrected my old CF-30. It was still happily running XP, but modern high schools appear to have some incompatibilities.

Looking at some threads on here, I got a spare caddy put a new 240GB SSD in it, dragged out my Mk3 and a restore disk and loaded a fresh copy of Win 7 onto it.. Upgraded the BIOS in the MK1 and swapped the drive. Perfect, no problems at all..

Couldn't leave well enough alone..... Decided to upgrade to Win 10. Got a warning that it didn't like the Intel 945 video adapter, loaded 10 and then stopped the boot process showing a code of 0xC1900101 - 0x20017.. I went back, put the several hundred 7 updates in and tried again.. Same error.

I know a lot of MK1's were upgraded to 10, could it be that 1809 refuses to load with the 945 (Dell users say it loads even after the error) or am I missing something else.

    Thanks, Jim Bauer

I read the majority of them, it appears that at some point in the past, one of the anniversary editions stopped supporting the 945GM chipset. So I either need a way around it or access to one of the older versions of Win 10. We won't even consider the activation problems that I may have upgrading offline with an older version....

    Thanks, still thinking hard...

I downloaded the recommended driver from the Dell mention on the Intel site. I had downloaded the Intel updater, but it states that my drivers are all up to date. I note that all the Dell notes were dated 2015, I guess I'll search for a 2015 release OF Win 10 and see if that's the problem..

    Thanks for the hints,, Jim

I sometimes wonder if people give up after posting a problem or just try to hide their unique solution....

Given that Win 7 is coming to an end soon, I've decided to post my easy solution. I thought long and hard, all of these Dell users eventually loaded Win 10 and never had a problem. I went to http://windowsiso.net/ and downloaded the 1511 x32 release and put it on a dvd, Fired up the CF-30 with wifi turned off, it found the DVD and asked me if I wanted to run setup.... I did and it successfully loaded and installed Win 10...

Now I'm waiting to see if it updates without trying to replace the working video drivers...

    Thanks all, Jim

My guess it will replace the working video drivers. That's one of the things I have noticed with W10. Touchscreen is another....and the list goes on..,...

This is one of the beefs we have on here and it's not just us. It happens on all the forums. You can tell a die heart Toughbook junkie on here....he stays here till the end. If the problem can be solved we will do it and tell you how it's done. I think that is one of the big issues that me and Shawn has . Some members never come back with a update.
