The GTX 980 MXM has 200W power draw, the 1080 has 180W power draw, does that mean that we will be getting a 1080 inside of the next CLEVO laptop? and if so any idea when?

Unfortunately that information is not public yet. However given the circumstances I would assume so.

I could understand a question about a 1080M but talking about the 1080 Desktop edition...which won't be available before at least 1year + some months...

For laptop 1080M on word : COMPUTEX

The bulk of engineering is done. They know how to do it now, and it's supported by more than just Clevo. I'd say it will take about to November.

There is less work than before but still work to do, you have to design the ultra compact cards very carefully.

It's not about the time it takes to design the card, but more like marketing timing,

it's 1080M -> 1080 desktop when they need to boost sales in the DTR tier... they won't release a video card that may harm the sales of the upcoming 1080M..but when those very sales begin to fall...

They can release a desktop class 1080 right now if they want.
