First off I am new to the forums and wanted to say thanks for the info I have found so far in the threads.

One thing I have not found yet is if the video driver is going to have the actual resolution for the screen, in my case 1280x800 (couldn't afford to move up to the WSXGA or WUXGA). Or am I going to have to stick with the typical 4/3 ratio (eg. 800x600, 1024x768) and stretched looking desktop that would come with it.

I'm pretty excited about getting my new laptop[:p] (its on order) but worry that I might be dissapointed if all I end with is a stretched desktop and video[V]

Thanks for any input you have.

Let me start by saying that I DON'T have this laptop and I am not ordering it either. I'm not ordering anything right now. But through my research, I can tell you that the display WILL NOT be stretched at all. When you are in the display control panel, you will see options for 1280x800 without a doubt. The icons will look perfectly like they would on any regular screen. The only problem I have with widescreen is that some games ARE stretched on the display. Mainly ones with a fixed 4:3 aspect ratio. You can find out lots more about this on http://www.widescreengamingforum.com. They have lots of workarounds and patches for many games. But, as you will learn, some games cannot be patched and will always be stretched. You will learn more as you read on that site.

Thanks so much for the reply! That is pretty reassuring. I figured that was the case but I wasn't sure because I had seen one in a store that didn't offer the widescreen resolutions. I imagine the drivers just weren't updated or something.

And thanks for the link to the widescreen gaming forum. There some good info there[:)]
