I have a desktop pc with 3970X@5GHz and TitanXP.
usually i can only use my small 14" laptop with a bad, unestimated, uglyborn GT 750M

but at he end, how many games i can t play with my terrible underpowered laptop ?
    The witcher 3, titanfall2,Watch dogs2. that s all.
90% of my games library is totally playable
50% of my library (with all the most played games on steam) are playable MAXED OUT.

when you upgrade, you need to have one game in mind, what s your game ?

I personally dunno why ... I bought the gtx980m in a time where I wasn't playing anything & the status is still the same ... Nonetheless, I am entertaining the idea of upgrading to 1070 with no reason whatsoever to do this upgrade ... I believe it is like an addiction

I don't usually have an actual game in mind anymore when I upgrade. I just love having a top of the line system with the latest tech in it. Weather it be a desktop replacement machine that can run anything at max settings, or a tiny portable that I can use anywhere.

I am trying to slow down though. I used to buy a new laptop every month or two, I am down to a few a year now, but would like to just upgrade every couple years or so eventually. I'm always thinning the "herd" of laptops I have by selling off the least used ones.

When I built my desktop I did not have any specific game in mind. I just wanted to blow my friends out of the water. Mind you, I've been mercilessly ribbed by them since I used to only buy laptops. It was the greatest and funniest feeling when I entered their domain, and I purchased two Titan XPs for my first build, and their eyebrows raised and their shoulders sagged a little bit. :D:p

At this point in time, you could have gotten by with a 970m for the last two years and been fine, and still been fine. There really isn't anything all that demanding unless you insist on ultra high resolution and details.

It's surprising what you can live with when you can't really afford the latest and greatest. My laptop has a 970m and still runs every game just great. Granted it's not my primary gaming machine like it used to be (use my desktop primarily now), but it still holds its own when it needs to. I expect another 1-2 years out of it easily.
