My fan seems to roar like an animal when it runs games like skyrim and counter strike on full graphics. Is there any way to turn the fan noise down or off? Counter strike dosent take much to run so I am not sure why the fan has to roar that loud when I run it even on normal graphics. Thanks

The fan speed is controlled by the computer and ramps up as the temp rises up. You can control the fan speeds with a custom fan speed table. More details here: Alienware Fan Control

It may not take much CPU power, but Skyrim and Counter Strike are probably making your GPU wail like a disgraced televangelist. Fans respond proportionately to GPU temps as well as CPU temps.

Try propping up the back of your laptop with a thick book. That will improve air circulation and may reduce the fan speed a little bit, but in reality there isnt much you can do about it. Games get that GPU hot and the fan is the #1 way the heat is removed. Buy an awesome headset and it wont matter how much the fans get going...all you'll hear is the game.

Download GPU-z or Hwinfo and monitor your temps, however, just to make sure there isnt an underlying problem causing your fans to go up to max speed and stay there.

Agree on the headset. I never hear my fans or much of any outside noise for that matter. A good laptop cooler may help as well.

I agree on the headset too, I never even notice when my fans kick in while I´m playing, but also, fans accumulate dust after sometime and so that can make them louder, besides all the great adviced received here, maybe cleaning the fans with compressed air would help a little.
