Just to put my input, I received a brand spanking new 1640 to replace my throttling 1640 and it still throttles. So pretty much on the phone with my case rep on having another replacement sent after they changed the parts in this new 1640 and I was able to show the dell tech who replaced the parts that even after the parts were replaced it still throttled.

    Haha... a gold digging contest?

Call it what you want, all the problems existed and this is what Dell decided to do to "fix" my problems.

I went through 3 in home part replacements and 3 system replacements. If the problems that were addressed were fixed, more problems would occur. I mean.. throttling was my main concern but I had problems which were annoyances..

I remember speaker crackling at a mere 30%
I remember I couldn't change my brightness unless I took out my battery and held the power button for a few seconds..
My computer wakes up from sleep randomly..
My wireless connection drops when I have peripherals plugged in..
My RGBLED screen turns off but my system still processes when under heavy load..
My keyboard has a sinkhole near 'k'..
The monitor hinge sticks out just like the "help removing aluminum back plate" thread..
Many more, but you get the point.

I doubt Dell wants to deal with all these problems seperately, so they just send a replacement. I don't really disagree with the decision :)

Right now I'm pretty close to where you are right now. I've been battling with Dell for about 4-5 months now, with over 8 techs, around 20 phone calls and 4 parts replacement and 1 system replacement, I'm just about ready to just ask for a refund. I only had my system for a little more than a year and I always wondered why I would my fps would take a dive or when I did video editing it would stutter. On my old laptop I would have some of your issues also, the crackling speakers, speakers would also rattle. Mouse pad would sometimes not work from hibernation. Monitor hinge cracked, and back plate was bent from the start, dust in the screen. Thank godness for this case rep I have right now, shes been awesomely helpful, calls and informs me everyday and shes very understanding. Right now I'm in the process of getting a second replacement. If this doesn't pan out, probably will just ask for a refund, didn't spend $2300 on a paperweight.

No clue, Dell has been playing the run around with techs and reps with me. After the xps techs couldn't solve my issue with repairs, the issue went to a case rep who was a bit unhelpful, he didn't call me to inform me of the status of the laptop, only time he called was for authorization for a replacement laptop with a 15 inch screen downgrading me, I told him that specs was subpar and that it wouldn't solve my issues but he was adamant it would so I said okay. After I didn't hear from him for weeks, which according to Dell, a replacement laptop was suppose to be built and sent within 3 weeks, it was a going on the 5 week before I heard anything. The current dell rep called me informing me that sorry that my case was taking so long and that the laptop would be sent within the week. Every day since that first call, she would call to inform me of the status and after I received the laptop she called to make sure everything was fine, she was able to replace the 15 inch wled with the 16 rgb which I originally had. So after all that, I tried out the laptop, it was still throttling, so I sent an email to her, and she called, told her my story, sent a tech out to replace some parts in the laptop. I showed the tech it didn't work. Now shes working on getting authorization on getting another replacement.
