Hi all, i m a newbie. I m in great need of favour by u people. I m a medical student and want to buy a laptop for my personal use.

I m highly confused between hp and lenovo models.

plz somebody suggest one from following two models-

    1) HP Pavilion dv5118TX (EV899PA)

    link-http://h50025.www5.hp.com/hpcom/in_en/11_29_63_4886_EV899PA.html

    2) Lenovo 3000 N100 model 07684KA

    link-http://www-604.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=4611686018425114452&storeId=10000356&langId=356&categoryId=4611686018425042855&dualCurrId=1000105&catalogId=-356

Price of above two models is almost same. so which model should i prefer and why??

The HP has 20GB more hard drive, a dedicated graphics card (albeit not a great one) and double the RAM of the Lenovo.

The Lenovo is .1kg lighter, half a centimeter thinner, has a fingerprint reader.

Oh, and the Lenovo isn't an HP.

    :p

If you want quality, lenovo, if you want better performance, hp.
I personaly would prob go with the hp, but if you want it to last long, go with lenovo

    Namaskar,

I personally feel that between the two, the HP is better than the entry level Lenovo. The Thinkpad line is superior.

If you get the HP, which I personally prefer, get the 12 cell battery.

No, I was definately taking a jab at HP.

I would recommend the Lenovo over the HP, but that could also be because I just bought one ;)

Lenovo's 3000 series are good notebooks, but Lenovo's quality shines in their Thinkpad line, not the 3000s.

I'd probably go for the HP if performance is what matters to you and you don't mind being a bit more careful with it. The Lenovo if you want a sturdily built laptop (as compared to others in that price range, the 3000 line is very good) that'll take a moderate beating (though not the kind that thinkpads withstand) then the Lenovo would be good.

Hey its more indian people!!! I knew we were on this site somewhere...
Anyways, with the question at hand, the dv5000 has been on the market a bit longer, and there are many processor options such as the AMD Turion and Intel Core Duo. If you have not already, you should read some of the reviews.

i dont think the n100 has fingerprint reader....
if you compare the brands and lenovo is better...
the n100 seems comparable to the hp since they are not thinkpads :D...
but they are still pretty good build...
if you dont mind the current specification of n100 and you would upgrade in the future then id go for n100....

i think the hp is a better system for multimedia use. so if you are going to use this notebook for watching dvds and listening to music, i say go with hp.

Having seen them both, they are pretty similar. The n100 is a bit more solid. HP as better sound and an extra 512MB of memory which will help in the performance department.

Yes the memory is easily upgradeable as both memory slots are located on the underside of the notebook. You'll probably need an add-on card if you want to do surround sound.

    thanx zazonz!
so can i go lenovo for now coz everybody says that its better quality wise?

80GB hd is enough for me. and 512 ram is also not less and i can upgrade it later on if needed.
