First thing, this thread is not suggesting the current M11X is not good enough, I have one on the way and I know I will be extremely pleased when I get it. This is just for fun and we all like to speculate (as long as you don't take it seriously...;)).

So what would make you buy the next M11X? Or if you have purchased one, what would make you upgrade? Try to be realistic with what you are after (not dual GFX/HD's etc).

For me it would only be a few things to make it my ultimate dream machine. First i'd love there to be a Nebula Red paint option, this would be the best performance bang for buck upgrade you could get; we all know red makes everything go faster (it's common sense).

Next i'd love it if they put an iX processor of some form in, as long as it improves performance subnstantially without a big hit on battery life. Or i'd be happy with another C2D if they had the base clock around 2.0ghz, that would be perfect.

The 335m that is already in the M11X is very capable, but it'd be great to have the option to upgrade to maybe a single 4870 (since it is rumoured they will become obsolete with the new M17X and AW would probably have a few around).

These features would probably be costly, but i'd gladly buy it in a heartbeat and it would be one hell of a formidable machine. But I don't really have a lot of hardware/tech knowledge so maybe this setup is going to explode as soon as I open solitaire or last 15 minutes on a 5.4 million cell battery. Feel free to correct me and add your own suggestions!

If this current model had at least an i3 cpu, I would immediately pull the trigger. As it stands now, I think I will wait for a refresh. I think the video card is more than enough.

I was thinking about this, just worried about the effect on weight it will have. Plus once you throw the kitchen sink in people will be expecting a handwash dispenser and an oven, this will probably put the m11x out of the price range for general consumers. People will then be saying "well if I want the whole BBQ i'll just go the m17x for $50 more".

Not sure the industry is ready for that in an m11x yet.

    On the reals:
    - a bit lighter...
    - improved cpu
    - lose some of the screen bezel
    - come with a sleeve

lighter, better cpu, discrete AW look. I wouldn't mind seeing a 13" version that's CHEAPER
and the ability to say your name when you sign on.

Honestly not much, if they just keep improving it as the tech progresses I think it is just about perfect. Unlike some I really don't want anything like Optimus, I like having the control to decide maybe I want a little less fps or something in a video for the extra battery life. In its current form it is incredibly snappy, great performing in games, light, long battery life. Nothing I can really say today that I would add.

Something to add to the list that I would have liked:

a multitouch pad. It's supposed to be portable and I'm not going to wipe out a mouse all the time. a multitouch pad, like those of the macbook, would add greatly to functionality.

really?? I know it comes with side/vertical scrollers but I havn't read about the ability to change it to multitouch through drivers. Anyone have done this with other laptops?

K how about this. Next M11x should have a built in second screen and wacom tablet.

    Pure absurdity and awesomeness.

^ Yes a desktop replacement laptop by Lenovo is gonna have that...

The alienware software loaded on the laptop lets you customize how you use the touchpad.

Yes, the command center does let you. Sensitivity and enable/disable scrolling, but to my knowledge, the touchpad is not multitouch. This is a feasable addition that the future m11x should have in standard.

I would like to see the biggest touchpad they can feasibly put in there... and maybe a fingerprint login, the facial recognition stuff is really sensitive to lighting and never works for me.
