This sounds like those "shreds" videos on Youtube :D

What's wrong with Foreigner? They are a decent band for what they are.
Sellout is an interesting label. I guess some artists do try to reach wider audience, sometimes it means simplifying their songs. On the other hand I do believe for some it gets boring to write and play same thing over and over again, so they try to broaden their catalogue. And speaking of McDonald, a lot of prog rock bands/artists had the weird 80s period, be it Genesis, King Crimson, Yes, Rush, etc. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. All I got to say we got interesting stuff out of them.
I'm no musician, but if I ever was I definitely wouldn't want to stay within one genre. Sometimes I feel like listening to some thrash metal, but there are also times when I just want to listen to some pop music. Why artificially limit myself?

This post reminded me when I was a teenager. Back when I was just getting into Metallica. Their first four albums were stellar, masterpieces of heavy music. The Black Albums was a bit iffy, but still decent. But then I listened, or rather tried to listen to Load and Reload (full disclosure, I never did fully listen those albums to this day). I was very unsatisfied with those albums. But, you know, whatever. It's not like I can't listen and enjoy their previous or future works and besides, there is sooooooooo much music, there is no shortage of listening material.
