    Hello there,
I need your advice for choose my laptop.
    Actually, I have an Aspire V3-771G (i5 3210M 2.5Ghz/3.1Ghz with turbo, geforce GT 630M, 17.3", 6GB DDR3).
It's really heavy and 17.3" too cumbersome. I'd like to replace it with something lighter with better performance.
Ideally, I'd like to have an 8th gen, i5 or i7 if it's really worth it.
An other things, it would be great if it's a 2in 1.
I don't care about the sound quality, neither trackpad.

    1) What is your budget?
1200€ max, the less, the better, around 1000 if possible

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
    b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12" screen

    3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.
    France

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Not really, if I can avoid Gygabite and Lenovo, it would be good but I can deal with it.

    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
    I can consider it.

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
    * Development : working on sublim text on a mounted disk from a distance server (with sshfs), nodejs script, bash script.
    * Netflix
    * Reading

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
Mainly leaving it on desk but sometimes picking it at work or on holidays, and on my bed...

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
No gaming, I've my desktop for it. Maybe light browser game, but nothing more.

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
    8 hours min !

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
I prefer to see it but it's not mandatory.

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (Windows 7 / 8), Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, etc.
    Ubuntu 16.04, but I'll probably use a dual-boot with windows 7 ou 10

    12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer?
1080p. I don't need 4k, I prefer to sacrifice screen resolution over battery life.

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? (Scroll down to see explanations.)
I like matte screen but glossy is ok.

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Not really, as long as I don't have the feeling to have a toy between my hands

    15) When are you buying this laptop?
    As soon as possible.

    16) How long do you want this laptop to last?
    3 years

    17) How much hard drive space do you need? Do you want a SSD drive?
SSD mandatory, 256 required. 128 is ok, if I can add an other ssd later.

    18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?
No, and it would be great if it doesn't have one.

    Welcome.

    Look at these 2-in-1's:
Samsung Notebook 7 Spin (the 13.3-inch one was just released with a Core i5 8th gen. I don't know when it will be available in France, though)
    Lenovo Yoga 720 series

I would avoid the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (7373), as it has poor battery life.

Hello Charles and thank you for your advice.

The Samsung 2018 is not available in France at this moment.
I'm looking at the 720 but I'm a little bit afraid about the battery life.

I know it's a Lenovo, but the ThinkPad 13 might be worth a look and it'll get you a stellar keyboard.

    Hi ZaZ,

The ThinkPad 13 seems attractive but I only found it with a cpu 7th gen.
It's a deal breaker for me as I need the perf of 8th.

    Thanks anyway for you advice.
