    So I’m 40 years old.

I’ve been looking at getting a gaming laptop, for convenience only. I live in a flat I have small children, it seems more practical at this stage.

So what I’ve been really surprised and equally repulsed by is the completely gaudy childish designs of these gaming laptops!

Am I missing something? Because from the look of these products I would say they’re marketed towards teenage boys.
But then what teenage boy is walking around with 1000–2000 in their wallet?

I’m really perplexed by the design and who the manufacturer's feel their audience is?

I’m not completely sure what it’s like in the US, but I live in the UK, and I’m not sure many people would want to scream they're a ‘gamer’ — gaming is still considered here a slightly nerdy past time.

What’s others views on this one?

personally I’m not entirely sure I want my laptop to scream ‘Dork alert’ !

Clevo looks to be what you are probably looking for, everything else has more or less had these types of designs for a while now

Parents tend to pick up the tab for younger demographics

But I can’t believe that the majority of people buying expensive laptops are very young people..? Or even their parents.

    Maybe I’m wrong about that.

Personally I would assume that the bulk of the purchases are being made by 30 to 40 age range….

I dont have an ear to the ground of economies of scale but it doesnt surprise me to see a lot of students using gaming laptops or macbooks when they get student discounts and also just borrow extra on top of their loans to pay for it (or their parents)

If there was no market for hardware with such aesthetics, companies would not continue to produce them.

I'm 38 and I like RGB to a point- it's great when you have the option to customize for subdued colors or just turn it off when you want

Check out the Lenovo Legion 5 and the HP Omen 15 as they dont have the typical gaming laptop look.

Great question. The idea probably is to make the device less boring, as if it mattered at all. Gamers focus their attention in the content, and the device should just be elegant, aesthetically pleasing. By changing the design to flashy, I bet they lose more customers than they gain. Fortunately, there are many laptops which dont fall into the trap from brands such as Clevo, Tongfang, Gigabyte, even the new Asuses are toned down.
