superantispyware is a good free one, if you need to check your system.

Windows Defender is one of the best antispyware programs and it's free for XP.

I find the Kaspersky engine under the covers in ZoneAlarm AntiVirus on Vista to be enough. I had Windows Defender turned off, but recently turned it back on. I do not think it will stay on, though. If I were to add another AntiSpyware program to the mix, I would probably add CounterSpy V2.

There's lots of free antispyware tools available, but in my experience they not always deliver. Anyway, there's two products I always recommend: the Grand Daddy of anti-spyware, AdAware from Lavasoft, and PC Tools' Spyware Doctor. Spyware Doctor is what I use when I use Windows.

How can you say that? everytime I scan with Windows Defender it gives me no errors or maybe just one error/spyware...

then I run a test with any other program like Spybot Search and Destroy the last time I tried,, and it found 19 spwayre problems! so how in the world can anyone recommend such a crappy POS?

Actually, SpyBot S&D seems to me to have fallen in stature over the past few years. Also, SpyBot S&D detects tracking cookies and Windows Defender ignores those. If you go into your Browser(s) and clear all the cookies and cache before running SpyBot S&D it likely will find nothing as well.

But clearing your cookies meas you have to login in each site / forum which is very annoying and tedious. :(
