I'm poking all around my brand new x61s, delivered today. First question that I can't seem to answer myself:

What is SBITS (publisher DDNI) program listed in the Programs and Features utility?

A windows search of the computer for 'sbits' turns up nothing.
A google search for 'sbits', 'ddni', or both also yeilds little info.

Anyone with a new Thinkpad know what this program is?

Mainly I'm just curious; as soon as the university re-opens I'll be picking up my $20 copy of Vista Premium to do a clean install and replace the Vista Basic the machine shipped with.

Did you buy the system through your university? Did it come with a custom preload for them?

A Vista search leads to VistaOOBEFirstRun in the C:\SWTOOLS folder. Looks like the offers displayed during the initial startup.

I just got my T61 and after installing all the necessary plugins & what-not I ran hijackthis to turn off all the startup programs that I don't need. I came across the same program...

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDNIUser] C:\Program Files\DDNI\SBITS\DDNIUSER.EXE

I checked the folder and the programs are signed by Digital Delivery Networks, Inc. There are a couple executables in there and nothing happened when I tried to run them. The 'install' executable opened up a window with pictures of lenovo branded nascar, 'official nba sponser' and 'lenovo designs olympic torch'.
There were publisher and description boxes but they were both blank, 3 buttons said install/later/don't install.
I googled the company and found their website.

It almost looks like Lenovo is shipping their laptops with spyware...

DDNI is a company that makes gadget software for Lenovo. I read about them recently in some PC mag. SBITS is a Microsoft Service that phones home so updates can be sent out.
