other than the obvious of course. I recently purchase a "certified refurbished" m11x, and am very pleased. It may as well have been new from all that I can see.

But the outlet has another category called "scratch and dent" with some great deals, and I wouldn't mind overlooking some scuffing, but what if it looks like it survived a train wreck? Am I missing something? I couldn't find any description of what the scratch or dent was on that unit. Is this just luck of the draw, because I can't imagine you can change your mind once the unit has been delivered...

Anyone have any experience about this here?

Scratch and dent is exactly as it sounds. I've bought scratch and dent. Mine had a visible scratch under the the laptop, although the laptop was actually new. I think it was a factory mistake. Sometimes it can be more visible on the lid or something but for the most part users haven't gotten anything so horrible that it mattered especially for the cost.

And I believe they have a 30 day return policy anyhow. So yes you could return it.

I bought a scratch and dent once that should have been label "been to war and back". It looked like hell. Dell replaced the obviously bad parts without a problem (dell has great warranty service), but in retrospect I should have returned it, as the laptop has always looked "haggard".

WingNut is correct though, most will look close to new condition. If it doesn't look good enough for you, you can return it.

I'm using a S&D machine right now, the only thing I can see is a 2mm area on the palmrest where it looks like something tough hit it, causing it to look slightly discolored if you're looking for it (took me about 30 seconds to find it just now). But, I'm getting the leather skin anyway, so that takes care of that.
